On Tuesday, Taylor Swift publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president, putting to rest any speculation about her political stance ahead of the November election.

In an Instagram post made shortly after Harris’s debate with former President Donald Trump on ABC News, Swift shared her decision to support Harris. “Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. Now is a great time to research the issues and candidates. As a voter, I make sure to review their proposed policies and plans for our country,” Swift wrote.

She also addressed a recent incident involving a fake AI-generated endorsement of Donald Trump that had been posted online. Swift expressed concerns about misinformation and emphasized the importance of transparency. “To combat misinformation, I need to be clear about my actual choice for this election. I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in 2024.”

Harris, who became the Democratic nominee in early August after President Joe Biden stepped out of the race, later selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Swift highlighted Walz’s record on LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive health, and other issues in her endorsement.

“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she champions the rights and causes I believe in. She’s a steady and capable leader, and her choice of @timwalz as running mate reassures me of her commitment to the issues that matter,” Swift wrote.

Swift also encouraged her followers to register to vote and take advantage of early voting, providing resources in her Instagram story. She ended her post with a light-hearted reference to a term used by Sen. JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, to criticize Democrats, calling herself a “childless cat lady.”

Swift has been relatively quiet on political matters for most of her career but began to speak out more in recent years. In 2018, she endorsed Democratic candidates in Tennessee, and in 2020, she supported Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Her 2020 documentary, “Miss Americana,” reflects her regret for not addressing political issues sooner and includes criticism of Trump.

A group of Swift’s supporters, known as Swifties for Kamala, has mobilized in support of Harris. Although Swift is not directly involved, the group has garnered significant attention and raised over $122,000 in August during a kickoff call with prominent figures like Senator Elizabeth Warren and singer Carole King.

Swifties for Kamala’s communications director, Irene Kim, stated, “We believe Harris-Walz will fight for our rights and make this country safer for everyone.”
