Shannon Sharpe’s Instagram Live session recently went viral for all the wrong reasons.

On his Instagram account, @shannonsharpe84, Sharpe accidentally broadcasted a live video that featured explicit noises in the background, though no one, including Sharpe, was visible on the stream. Viewers quickly noted the inappropriate content, and the video became a topic of widespread discussion.

Initially, Sharpe claimed in an Instagram Story that his account had been hacked, stating, “Beware, my @shannonsharpe84 Instagram was hacked this morning. My team and I are working diligently to resolve the issue,” signed with his Unc signature. However, he later admitted on a podcast episode that the video was, in fact, not the result of a hack.

In the “Nightcap” podcast, which he co-hosts with Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, Sharpe expressed his embarrassment over the incident. He explained that he was unaware he was live-streaming when he inadvertently threw his phone on the bed. Sharpe revealed that he only learned of the situation when a member of his marketing team alerted him to the live broadcast and the audible sex noises.

“My heart sank,” Sharpe recalled on the podcast. “It dropped… Then I had to call my agent, the agency, ESPN… I had to come clean. My phone wasn’t hacked.” Despite the video being removed, the NSFW content did not go unnoticed, as Sharpe’s Instagram following exceeds 3 million and he has more than 2 million followers on X. NFL legend Terrell Owens was among those who took to social media to humorously comment on the situation.
