**VIENNA (AP)** — Organizers have canceled Taylor Swift's three scheduled concerts in Vienna this week following the announcement of arrests related to a potential attack on events in the area, including the concerts.
Swift was set to perform at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday as part of her Eras Tour. Barracuda Music, the event organizer, announced late Wednesday on Instagram that “we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety” due to government officials' confirmation of a planned attack at the stadium.
Earlier that day, authorities revealed the arrest of two suspected extremists, one of whom appeared to be planning an attack on an event in Vienna, potentially targeting the concerts. Franz Ruf, public security director at Austria’s interior ministry, reported that the 19-year-old suspect had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group and had been focusing on the Taylor Swift concerts. The suspect, an Austrian citizen radicalized online, had chemicals in his possession that are currently being analyzed.
The cancellation followed an earlier announcement of increased security measures for the Swift concerts, with a particular focus on entry checks. Vienna police chief Gerhard Pürstl stated that while the immediate threat had been minimized, the abstract risk warranted heightened security. Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer expressed disappointment on social media, acknowledging the serious nature of the threat but commending the cooperation between police and intelligence agencies that prevented a potential tragedy.
Barracuda Music assured fans that “all tickets will be automatically refunded within the next 10 business days,” a notice also posted on Swift’s official website. The concerts had been sold out, with approximately 170,000 fans expected to attend.
Fans took to social media to express their disappointment over the canceled shows. Many shared their frustration over the time and effort they had put into preparing for the concerts. Annmarie Timmins, a journalist who traveled from the U.S. for the Thursday show, described her shock upon hearing the news while waiting for the subway after dinner.
